The Silver 3D folder set is a collection of 568 folder icons designed to enhance your desktop and bring life to an otherwise bleak computer existence. My goal has been to obtain most of the important application, game, and utility icons that are currently available for the Mac and put them neatly onto folders. In this quest for a handsome desktop, I have also incorporated many generic folders that represent how many of us use our Macintoshs. In addition to many everyday subjects, you will find sports folders, corporate folders, university folders, and even folders of flags from other countries.
Well, here we are again, with release #11. In this you will find some interesting new folders that cover many various generic topics. Also, there are some new applications and games that have since come out. I would also like to thank America Online's DdeGraaf and Rachel5133 for their contribution to the latest release. Darryl Degraaf (DdeGraaf) made some outstanding college folders and Rachel supplied many of the generic icons that grace this set. Kevin Miller, also of Eugene, supplied some interesting home grown items that will embellish any desktop (check out CozyCoupe). There are two update folders that sport new icons. Voyager has since been upgraded to 2.0 and TheTypeBook is now using color icons. Hope you enjoy this latest batch, and once again, I would love to hear from you or if you have contributions to add to the collection, you can send them to "Toymaster" on America Online. Now on to the instructions on how to use them...
I have taken the initiative to make things easy for you to use by allowing a simple copy and paste from the Get Info box of the Silver3D folders to the folder of your choice in its Get Info box. It is not intended that you simply use the folder "as is", as the names may be different than the ones that you use. It could confuse your System and Finder by simply replacing your folder with these without making sure that the name for each folder is typed "exactly" as the folder it is replacing.
The folder transfer procedure should be as follows:
Select the Silver 3D folder you want to use by clicking on it. Go to the File menu and select "Get Info". Once the Silver 3D Get Info box is up, click on the folder icon so that a square box surrounds it. Then do a "Copy" command from the Edit menu (or a "Command-C" keystroke from the keyboard). Close the Silver 3D's Get Info box by clicking the small square box in the upper left part of the Get Info box. Now, select the folder you want to transfer the folder icon to, by clicking on it and selecting "Get Info" from the File menu. Once again, click on the folder icon in the box so a square surrounds it. Go to the Edit menu and select "Paste" (or a "Command-V" from the keyboard). The folder should update to the Silver 3D folder you wanted. Close the Get Info box by clicking in the square in the upper left hand corner and you are done.
Since this is an ongoing project, this collection will be updated and changed from time to time by new programs, interesting new topics, special requests, and upgraded icons from existing programs. All I ask is that you keep this read me file with the archive if you redistribute the Silver3D folder collection to other users so the appropriate credits go with the artwork. Have fun, and enjoy customizing your Macintosh!
